Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are wafer-thin shells of porcelain or composite resin bonded to the surface of your permanent teeth. They cover up minor oral imperfections, making your smile more aesthetically pleasing and symmetrical.

At Esi Cosmetic & General Dentistry, the team specializes in the design and creation of customized veneers. To ensure natural, precise results, they match the shade, color, and shape of your natural teeth.

To speed up the treatment process, the team collaborates with in-house laboratory technicians. Instead of sending your impressions to an outside office, a technician visits the office and creates your veneers on-site.

What types of issues can veneers correct?

At Esi Cosmetic & General Dentistry, the team uses veneers to correct minor cosmetic imperfections, including:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Stains and discoloration
  • Smaller-than-average teeth
  • Pointy teeth

You might also benefit from veneers if you have broken or chipped teeth.

What does getting veneers involve?

At Esi Cosmetics & General Dentistry, getting veneers takes two appointments, spaced a few days to a week apart.

First appointment

If your provider determines you’re a candidate for veneers, they administer a local anesthetic and remove a thin layer of enamel from each of your teeth to take impressions.

A laboratory technician visits the office and uses your impressions to design and manufacture a set of veneers that match the shade, color, and shape of your natural teeth.

Second appointment

When the technician finishes your custom veneers, you return to the office. Your provider once again administers a local anesthetic, lines up the veneers with your teeth, and bonds them in place with dental cement, removing any excess material. They polish the veneers and provide care instructions.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers last 10-15 years on average, but you can extend their lifespan by practicing good oral hygiene. The Esi Cosmetic & General Dentistry team recommends you brush and floss daily and visit the office every six months for an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning.

To prevent your veneers from cracking or chipping, wear a mouthguard while playing sports and avoid bad habits like biting your nails or opening packaging with your teeth.
