Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign is a new type of orthodontic treatment that straightens your teeth with plastic aligners instead of metal brackets, archwires, or rubber bands. The nearly invisible aligners fit snugly over your teeth, allowing for a more convenient and discreet method of care.

It’s possible to remove your aligners at any time. That means you can still eat your favorite snacks, including nuts, seeds, and fruit. What’s more, the process provides quick results, allowing most individuals to complete treatment in just 6-12* months.

What issues can Invisalign correct?

At Esi Cosmetic & General Dentistry, the team uses Invisalign to correct mild and moderate alignment issues, including:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • A malpositioned or misaligned jaw

You might also benefit from orthodontic treatment with Invisalign if you have crowded, crooked, or overlapping teeth.

What does orthodontic treatment with Invisalign involve?

Each provider at Esi Cosmetic & General Dentistry has Invisalign Gold Level certification. Before recommending orthodontic treatment, they conduct an oral exam and take X-rays to assess the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

If your provider determines you qualify for Invisalign, they take digital scans of your mouth and upload them to a computer program.

Your provider uses the program to design a custom treatment blueprint that maps out your teeth and jaw movements. After walking you through the plan, they send your scans to the in-house dental technicians. The dental technicians use your scans to design and manufacture a set of orthodontic aligners.

When the lab finishes your aligners, you return to the office and try them on. During treatment, you visit Esi Cosmetic & General Dentistry once every two weeks and change into a new set of aligners. Each set places mild pressure on your teeth and jaw, gradually moving them into the optimal position.

Do Invisalign aligners require regular maintenance?

Invisalign aligners are just like your teeth in that they collect food particles, plaque, and bacteria. To prevent buildup, the Esi Cosmetic & General Dentistry team recommends rinsing them off in tap water several times each day and gently brushing them at night. For more comprehensive cleanings, ask your provider about Invisalign cleaning crystals.
